Stuffed Apples
Stuffed apples are one of the easiest desserts to put together
in your slow cooker. Start by cutting the top off the apples and taking
out the core and some of the middle. What you put in them is up to you,
but we recommend that you try dried fruits, granola, brown sugar,
chocolate, or peanut butter. Once you've determined what to stuff your
apples with, pour just enough water to cover the bottom of the slow
cooker, and place the stuffed apples inside. They should cook on low for
about four hours. More or less time will be needed if you'd like some
crunch or prefer them softer. Serve alongside vanilla ice cream with a
caramel drizzle, and enjoy your baked apples!
Fondue
When you hear fondue, you might think of cheese, but dessert
fondue is arguably delicious. Mix chocolate chunks or chips with heavy
whipping cream and pour the mixture into your slow cooker on low heat.
Allow the mixture to melt and mix thoroughly for about 30 minutes. You
can dip pound cake chunks, fruit, or candy into the creamy mixture.
Serve while hot with a choice of whip cream or fruit syrups to drizzle
on your dessert options.
Bananas Foster
This delicious dessert starts out with 1/2 cup of butter thrown
into your slow cooker on low heat. Once melted, mix in 1/4 cup of brown
sugar. Stir to help the brown sugar dissolve into the butter. Toss in
six, ripe, sliced bananas with one-quarter cup of rum. Add the banana
mixture to cook on low for an hour. Serve bananas foster on a scoop of
vanilla ice cream, and enjoy this ooey gooey goodness.
Rice Pudding
For a great-tasting, easy version of rice pudding, pull out your
slow cooker, which should be your new favorite thing. Mix all the
ingredients of your favorite rice pudding and pour it into your slow
cooker. Allow the mixture to cook on low for about two hours. You can
serve as is or with whipped cream sprinkled with some cinnamon for extra
flavor.
Cobbler
Cobbler is a great fruit dessert to serve with a creamy scoop of
vanilla ice cream, but in the summer months, baking a fruit cobbler
will make your house warmer than you care to have it. A good way to
avoid the heat is to throw your favorite cobbler recipe together and
toss it into your slow cooker. Be sure to spray the inside of the slow
cooker with non-stick spray, and allow the cobbler to cook on low for
two to three hours.
Chocolate Lava Cake
This mouth-watering treat is incredibly easy in a slow cooker.
Simple mix a boxed chocolate fudge cake mix according to the directions
on the box. Add the mix into a greased slow cooker (cooking spray is
fine). Next, mix together 1 box of instant chocolate pudding mix and 2
cups of milk together in a bowl. Pour the mixture over the cake batter
in the slow cooker, but do not mix it up. Sprinkle a bunch of chocolate
chips over the top, cover, and cook on the low heat setting for 2.5 - 3
hours. To add a little buzz, replace 1/4 cup of the milk in the cake
batter with a flavored liqueur.
Bread Pudding
Bread pudding helps you make use of those extra slices of bread
you have lying around your kitchen, and it's also a great dessert that
goes easily into your slow cooker. Find a great recipe for chocolate
bread pudding or use your all-time favorite bread pudding recipe, and
cook in your slow cooker for close to two hours. If you like the outside
bread pieces crispy, let the dessert cook for another hour. Serve with
whipped cream while still warm.
Fruit Topping
Summer months mean lots of fresh berries, which make a great
topping for cheesecake, pound cake, and shortcakes. An easy way to put
together a homemade fruit topping is by utilizing your slow cooker.
Preheat your slow cooker on a low setting, spray with nonstick spray,
and toss in washed and stemmed berries. For every cup of berries, you'll
need one-quarter cup of sugar or honey to pour onto the top of the
fruit. Allow the fruit to sit and cook in the sugar and its own juices
for two hours. Once it's complete, you can store the mixture or use it
right away.
Slow Cooker Applesauce
This applesauce recipe for the slow cooker is easy enough for a
child to throw together, and more delicious than you can possibly
imagine. All you need is three pounds of your favorite apples, cored,
peeled, and sliced, one-quarter cup of brown sugar, and one and a half
teaspoon of apple pie spice. Combine everything into your slow cooker
and cook on low for five hours. Mash or stir to the consistency you like
best and you've got yourself a healthy, easy dessert.
