Every company needs to use Facebook for business. It's the top social network in terms of audience size, so it's where companies can reach the largest number of people.
Facebook offers free company “pages,” which is what it calls its free accounts set up by businesses and other organizational entities. The first thing a company should do on Facebook is create a company page and then stake out a personalized URL or web address, which would look like this: http://Facebook.com/YourBusinessName. Choose with care because company URLS on Facebook can’t be changed later.
Users can “like” any business’s page, which means they can get updates from a particular business in their personal Facebook news feeds. But there is no guarantee that posts from a business will show up in the feeds of all the people who are following the business’s page. For that reason, many businesses opt to use Facebook advertising to secure broader distribution of their posts—especially if the message really is designed to be “advertising.”
For updates posted to the free Facebook company pages, best business practices call for sticking to a conversational, informational tone, as opposed to direct advertising or promotion of products. Facebook page updates can be almost any length, but there are certain practices to avoid in Facebook posts if you want to increase the chances that users will see them.
